Airfields in Southern England with UL91

Can you feel it? I can’t see it, not through all the snow we’ve had recently anyway, but I can definitely feel it … spring is on the way. Which can only mean one thing … more flying!

Probably like you, I’m very ready for some long days and longer flights. Although the times I have been flying over the past 2 to 3 months have provided some outstanding haze and sublime silky-smooth air. Once that lumpy thermal stuff sets in, I may be wishing for the still winter air …

Thinking forward to more flying hours in the day, it’s another year of exploration. However, one thing I find challenging is finding airfields that will allow us to fill our C42 tanks with UL91 rather than 100LL. Yes, the spritely Rotax 912 can run on 100LL but it’s not great for it (it’s to do with the lead content, one for another blog I think), so I prefer to hunt down the most appropriate (and therefore, most safe) fuel I can.

I have turned to the very wonderful Sky Demon air navigation app to help me discover what airfields across the south of the UK have UL91. Now I haven’t called any of these places to check and I haven’t included prices. For the obvious reason that like it’s MoGas counterparts, prices change regularly! So, as always please exercise due diligence and check yourself before taking our word for it!
