Starting Your Autogyro Training

Anyone, young or old, can learn to fly a gyro. You'll need a medical declaration from your GP (the same as for microlights) and you'll need to undertake the following training:

  • MT-03If you've never flown before: At least 40 hours of flight training (30 dual, 10 solo) and ground exams in air law, meteorology, navigation, human performance and limitations, and gyroplane technology. You'll also need to pass the General Skills Test to obtain your Private Pilots Licence (PPL(G)).
  • If you already fly aeroplanes, you'll have to do at least 30 hours of flight training (20 dual, 10 solo) and pass the gyroplane technology ground exam. You'll also need to pass a General Skills Test.
  • If you fly helicopters, you'll only need a minimum of 20 hours (10 dual, 10 solo) of flight training, plus the gyroplane technical ground exam and a GST.
