Hi, I'm Rob and I started training at Popham in August 2006 after a trial flight (which was bought for me as a present) got me hooked. I passed my GST (flying test), first time, in May 2007. The instructors at Airbourne were absolutely first class - they're natural teachers and their enthusiasm for their sport is infectious. That's important, especially when you've just spent several hours thrashing the circuit, without pulling off a single decent landing (maybe you'll be a natural, but I wasn't!).

The club is generally very well organised. Availability - instructors and aircraft - was excellent and I never once had a cancellation due to anything other than weather. The weekend slots do get busy, but as long as I booked sensibly in advance (i.e. not the day before!) I was generally able to fly at least once every weekend. I trained with the same instructor throughout, though Airbourne did occasionally send me out with a different instructor for progress checks. Small group groundschool lectures, and Mac's interactive CD-ROMs saw me through the exams with a 100% first time pass rate.

Now I'm qualified, I'm taking full advantage of the syndicate scheme and the highly supportive club environment: Aircraft are nearly always available, even at quite short notice, and the club's more experienced pilots are happy to sit with me on more adventurous trips, or to keep me safe while I gain experience in challenging weather conditions. So far, I've been to over a dozen different airfields around the UK and I'm looking forward to making my first cross-channel flight in Spring 2008!

I'm a happy customer and I'm pretty typical - but if you don't believe me, come over to Popham and chat to the students / club members. A warm welcome is guaranteed, there's usually something interesting going on and (at the weekends) a great fried breakfast in the cafe!
